I'm keeping this short and sweet so that we can get right on to
the good stuff. Just settled back and enjoy.

I'm thrilled to announce that our Featured E-Publisher is none

Many thanks and hugs to Eva and Tracy for their terrific help
in making E-Book Ecstasy extra special.

Readers Win with e-Authors Treasure Hunt

In what appears to be a historic undertaking, nearly forty writers
are joining together to reward readers for finding the treasures
they create. And the rewards for winning the e-Authors
Treasure Hunt is a chest of prizes designed to delight anyone.

"I can't recall a time when this many authors joined together,
independent of their publishers, to thank their readers," said best
selling author Leta Nolan Childers (letachilders.com.) "This is
our way of saying that we've found our gems in the readers who
have embraced and supported us-by reading and enjoying books
in electronic bindings."

The grand prize winner of the e-Authors Treasure Hunt, which
begins on August 1 and concludes on September 30, is an entire
library of books in electronic bindings-on diskette and CD,
valued at more than $250. Among the first prizes are a personal
CD player; two cassette players with audio books (courtesy of
DiskUs Publishing, www.diskuspublishing.com;) a jewelry box
(courtesy of Awe-Struck E-Books;) a ruby, sapphires and onyx
(courtesy of Saxco E-Book Publishing, saxco.net/ebooks;) a $25
gift Barnes and Noble gift certificate (courtesy of
KnowBetter.com) and two electronic Rolodex personal
organizers, among many more.

"It's wonderful that our publishers recognize the need to reward
our readers, too, and have jumped on the bandwagon to donate
prizes to augment those donated by the authors involved in the
Treasure Hunt," said Nolan Childers.

Players can find the rules and the form to complete at
www.geocities.com/e_authors/treasure.html. To play,
contestants browse the author web sites and find the gem
displayed. They then type the name of the gem with the correct
author on an easy to use form. In the event of a tie, a random
drawing will be conducted. Ten first prizes will also be offered.

"While one lucky winner will walk away with a treasure trove
of literary gems, there are no losers in the e-Authors Treasure
Hunt. A lifetime of reading treasures awaits those who set out to
explore the world of electronic publishing," said participating
author Linda Bleser (www.bleser.com)

Organizers for the event also hope that it will introduce readers
who have not yet discovered the wealth of informative and
entertaining books published electronically to this facet of the
publishing industry.

"This is, perhaps, the most entertaining and fun promotion on
the internet today," said Jim Farris, noted e-author
http://come.to/xaa "The 'Treasure Hunt' is a free, fabulous and
fun promotion that everyone will soon be talking about."

Joining in the promotion are sites that help readers gain
awareness of books in electronic bindings such as
KnowBetter.com, RomanticNotions.com and JustViews.com.
Writers' organizations, such as Mystik Ink
(www.mystic-ink.com/) are also supporting the Treasure Hunt.

FEATURED E-AUTHOR:

Xina Marie Uhl-Author/Publisher

Greetings, readers of Glenda's fabulous newsletter! I'm
honored she's allowed me to fill up this space with a little about
myself. My name is Xina Marie Uhl and I've written the
recently released e-book NECROPOLIS, a fantasy adventure.
NECROPOLIS is the first title released by our publishing
company, XC Publishing http://www.xcpublishing.com

I've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. It was a
favorite way for me to escape from household chores as a
child, and I must confess, it still is! When I was ten years old I
had a religious experience that led me straight into writing
fantasy. The religious experience was called STAR WARS. I
remember sitting in the dark theatre the first time I saw it,
utterly astounded by the planets and fighters, the light sabers
and exotic locales--and the story! It was sheer heaven. It was
an inevitable decline into obsession from there on: Star Trek,
Robert Heinlein novels, long sessions at the D&D table...

I first knew that I was a writer in high school, when I met my
best friend and current business partner, Cheryl Dyson. We
wrote every chance we could--stories, comic strips, novels, and
about a million silly giggly notes and letters to each other. We
both started writing fantasy novels at the same time, and would
encourage each other to continue. We were--and still are-each
other's number one fans.

I had the beginning idea for NECROPOLIS probably five or
six years before I actually sat down to write it. I originally
envisioned it to have a medieval setting, complete with dark
and gloomy prison cells and wizards, but my great interest in
ancient history intervened and the medieval setting turned into
that of an ancient desert city reminiscent of Greek, Roman and
Mesopotamian civilizations. The setting was incredibly fun to
create, but most of my efforts in this novel centered on
characters and plot. Characters, in my mind, are the main
reason people read--they have to be sympathetic, interesting
and somewhat unpredictable. Dru, the wounded warrior-priest
was the first character I came up with, and then Conyr, the
bitter ex-soldier, and Val, the mischievous little urchin. More
followed--Gilas the scheming sorcerer turned politician and
Sekeska, the desert assassin. Fitting everyone together in a
comprehensible plot made my brain hurt! Reviewer (and
bestselling author) Patricia White's comments regarding the
plot seem to sum it up best: "One that wiggles and twists,
drawing the reader deeper and deeper into the complex and
corrupt politics of that world."

The first chapter of NECROPOLIS is posted on our website, as
is a map of the main city-state Eretria (under the 'Printable
Maps' tab). More extras will be coming soon. I'd be honored if
you'd drop by and check them out.

Thanks, Glenda!

FEATURED E-PUBLISHER:

I'm Sharon L Reddy. They call me Spinner.

In 1989, my husband was working for the Alaska Department
of Environmental Conservation and my brother-in-law was
working for the US Forest Service. I saw what the expiration of
EPA 'final clean up or shut down' 10 year extensions for pulp
mills, and coinciding expiration of clear-cut permits, would do
to paper prices in 1999-2000. I saw its reflection in the mergers
and buyouts in the publishing industry. I began writing for
electronic publication, and carrying books on floppy disks to
science fiction conventions in 1991.

In 1997, I submitted my first books to an e-publisher. Ken
Sheets was the first person to buy them. We were both living in
the Minneapolis area at that time and became good friends.
One year later, Ken asked for my aid to create an e-publishing
company for good books that didn't fit the established genre
classifications, crossed many, or were experimental in nature.
He knew it was needed because I still had 9 books that didn't
'fit the criteria' of any e-publisher.

The business model for CrossroadsPub is radically different.
It's a personally held and managed company which functions as
a cooperative. Authors, editors and artists all receive royalties
on books sold, and much higher than most professional, full
service e-publishers can offer. We built the company to make
6.5% net. That net is split between those who function as the
administrative and production staff. This business model
allows every person associated with the company to invest
their labor, as much or little as they wish, in the long-term
profitability of good books.

In April of this year, I purchased controlling interest of the
company from Ken and moved it to Silver City, New Mexico,
where we have a great deal of community support.

CrossroadsPub books are all listed in Books in Print and can be
ordered through any bookstore, but we don't sign contracts
with distributors or retail booksellers requiring large discounts.
There is no cost of storage or handling required for ebooks, so
55% of the retail price for distribution, stocking and handling,
which makes sense for print books, seems excessive. We prefer
to keep our prices low and pay our authors, editors and artists
well. Our unique website is our store and it's in everyone's
'neighborhood.'

CrossroadsPub currently has ten editors, eighteen artists, nine
staff members and over two hundred books contracted. It's
built to grow and is thriving. It is proof that treating authors,
editors and artists with respect, and as colleagues and not 'raw
material suppliers,' is a viable and profitable business model.
Our quality is high, our prices are low, and everyone who
works on a book gets a fair return on their labor.

EVA'S COOKING WITH PASSION:

By: Eva Kende

I just had to say more on the subject of things stuffed. In the
early days of selling Eva's Hungarian Kitchen one business
friend of my husband's approached me at a party. "Do you have
a recipe for the meat loaf stuffed with eggs in your book?" I
replied in the affirmative. He immediately demanded 12 copies
of my book, to give to friends and family. Luckily I happened"
to have some copies in the car. This man grew up next door to
Hungarians and always wondered how the egg got into the
meat loaf. He was as happy with his package of books as a
child with a new toy, he solved one of the mysteries of life.

Another stuffed creation reposes on the cover of Eva's
Hungarian Kitchen. It's a pork roast stuffed with a Hungarian
sausage. Although it can be done by a deft cook, I usually ask
the butcher to do this for me. The butcher who created the roast
for the cover, is a good friend who now has a packing house
and deli, even after 16 years, he goes around like a peacock
boasting about how he was the one who created the stuffed
roast for me.

For a hot appetiser, try stuffing refrigerated crescent rolls with
a mixture of chopped ham, chopped chives, cream cheese and a
raw egg. Bake as directed. While on the subject, frozen puff
pastry or filo dough can hold any number of surprises, just put
your thinking cap on and have fun. Then you can name it
"what-ever-it-is" encroute a la "your name".

Release date: July 2000

**** Excellent

Leith McClure doesn't really want to be in this particular place
right now. Actually, she would much prefer to be back on
Earth at the University where she is most comfortable. But
with her fathers' illness, it is up to her to run the family
business until he recovers. So in March of 2308, she found
herself sitting with Steve Hancock, her fathers' right hand man,
in a bar on Arreis, better known as Trader World. She was here
to meet one of her father's clients, J'Qhir the Warrior, but she
was completely unprepared for the meeting. The Warrior is a
Zi and there are sanctions against trading with them.

Unknown to Leith, dealing with the Warrior was the least of
her problems at the moment. Both she and the Warrior are in
grave danger. Someone has a plan for the Zi's jewels and her
ship, a plan doesn't include them. Suddenly Leith and the
Warrior find themselves stranded on an uninhabited planet with
no hope for escape. As they try to prepare themselves for the
upcoming months of winter while hoping beyond hope for
rescue, questions run through each of their minds, questions
with no simple answers. Will the people responsible for their
abandonment get away with it? Or will they be caught? If the
guilty are caught will the truth come out in time for a rescue?

Author Lanette Curington has done a beautiful job with
STARKISSED. She has captured danger and excitement, thrills
and chills, love and hurt, and forbidden romance. All of this
has been blended into a wonderful book that flows quickly and
wraps you up completely into the story that you feel you are
there. You lose complete track of time as you race along with
the characters to see what is going to happen next. This is a
book that you will want to add to your list of "Must Reads".

Publisher: Wordbeams http://www.wordbeams.com

This extraordinarily moving and poignant collection of poems
centers on a lifetime of love, heartbreak, and heartfelt
expressions resulting from the author's visual and mental
perceptions as an African American deprived in a disoriented
society of love, hate, and racism.

Book Blurb:

From the time that she learned to write, Leronia Rawls' inner
feelings were expressed on paper that she discreetly treasured
as one treasures his or her personal diary. During her youth,
she didn't perceive her writings as poetic. Later she realized
that her writings were therapeutically spiritual.

Some of the poems, such as Regarding The Lady With One
Shoe, were derived from visions. Other poems were drawn
from the depths of Rawls' experience as a young adult. The
poem entitled The Problem focuses on the author's trauma as a
seven year-old when she was forcefully pulled away from a
department store water fountain designated exclusively for
whites. Black Berries Thoughts came from the summer months
that Rawls spent with her grandparents as a very young child.

Each poem represents a special moment or special event of the
author's past. As the author generously bares her soul and
documents her sentiments, readers will find themselves
thoroughly absorbed and riveted by the touching and
heartrending reflections contained in Rawls' prose.

Genre: mainstream fiction--romantic elements

Description:

David Tregorran, whose marriage is breaking up, and whose
apparently glamorous job as the senior Concorde pilot has
turned to drudgery, has taken to drinking. His judgment
impaired, he endangers the lives of innocent people, and he
risks the destruction of his entire career. He finds some peace
and a new start in life in a small village and at a rura
pub called "A Place in the Woods". The Concorde, once the
glamorous dream of the traveling public, is suffering from the
inevitable depredations of the age and exploitation by cynical
owners. David's drunkenness turns one aircraft into a death
trap. Concorde's survival is the result of David's skill, a high-
level cover up, and the death of two crew members. This
tension-filled novel chronicles the stress of a Concorde pilot as
he tries to reconcile his demanding career with his shattered
personal life.

Philip Newman joined the Anglo-French Concorde project in
1978 where he erved as a flight engineer and public relations
officer for the next fourteen years. A Place in the Woods, his
first book, is based on observations spanning twenty-five years
of world travel and a pilot's inside knowledge of the Concorde.

Formats: html, Rocketreader, PalmPilot, pdf (on request)

Description:

Serena Gregory conducted an on-line affair full of love and
laughter with Air Force fighter pilot Zachary Elias Kane.
Calling herself "Songstress", Serena bewitched "ZackAce"
with her on-line magic. Together they saved the universe,
climbed cyber balconies, and explored their deepest fantasies
while exposing their innermost souls--except for one or two
teensy weensy lies.

In a wheelchair, ashamed of her appearance, and scarred to her
soul by the auto accident that killed her fiance, Serena uploads
her beautiful older sister's picture to Zack's computer,
misleading him to believe she has long cornflower blond hair,
china blue eyes, and a flawless face. After all, she knows
they'll never meet face to face--he's at the top of the world in
Iceland.

When Zack shows up on Serena's doorstep without warning,
persuades her sister to trade places with her until she finds the
courage to reveal her true identity. Once the deception starts it
rolls downhill like a snowball, plowing everything in its path,
taking on a life of its own. Serena, a normally ethical and
honest person, is so deeply embarrassed that she set out to
deceive Zack, she fears he will never forgive her.

Zack's love and that of her family and friends show her the way
Back to God and her faith in this inspirational romance that is
part of Awe-Struck's Ennoble line.
